Edwin Baker: Heritage Minute

2024

This 60-second film tells the story of Edwin Baker, who was blinded by a sniper's bullet in 1915 while serving as a lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Engineers during the First World War. While recuperating at St. Dunstan's Hostel for Blind Soldiers and Sailors in London, England, he was inspired by the mantra of self-reliance taught by its founder, Sir Arthur Pearson and founded the CNIB, an organization that continues to provide support and advocate for blind and partially sighted Canadians.
